Enduring Guardianships

Life is often full of surprises and sometimes not that pleasant! An enduring guardianship appointment is a responsible way of planning ahead for your own future in circumstances where things do not go to plan.

An enduring guardian is someone that you trust who is able to make legally binding decisions for you where you are not able to make or communicate those decisions. An enduring guardian is usually a trusted family member or friend (over the age of 18 years) whom is appointed to make specific health and lifestyle decisions for you if you lose the capacity to make your own decisions at a future time.

The appointment of the enduring guardian may be revoked or withdrawn at any time if you change your mind.

The enduring guardian is not entitled or able to make any decisions concerning your finances, your assets, your bank accounts or how your money is managed or spent!

Your enduring guardian can make decisions in relation to health treatments , accommodation choices, whether you can be placed in a “care” facility or whether you shall have medical or dental procedures.

The enduring guardian can make decisions for you (if required) as to whether you receive continuing life support or medical treatment to sustain your life.
